Preconception Counselling

Preconception counselling is a video consultation to review your health history and prepare for a healthy pregnancy, before you conceive.

What Is Preconception Counselling

If you are planning a pregnancy, preconception counselling with Dr Lim is a chance to look at your overall health, discuss any medical conditions or medications, and understand what steps can help support a healthy pregnancy ahead of conceiving. Because it is a discussion built around your history and goals, it suits telemedicine well.

Why Preconception Counselling Matters

A head start on a healthy pregnancy

Address modifiable risks before you conceive, not after.

Clarity on medications

Some medications need review or adjustment before pregnancy — better to know early.

Personalised guidance

Advice tailored to your health history, age, and any previous pregnancies.

Peace of mind

A space to ask questions without the pressure of an in-person appointment.

What We'll Cover

Your medical history, including any chronic conditions and how they may affect pregnancy

Current medications and whether any need review before conceiving

Vaccination status and any updates recommended before pregnancy

Folic acid and other supplements to start ahead of conceiving

Lifestyle factors — diet, weight, smoking, alcohol — that can affect fertility and pregnancy outcomes

Family history and genetic considerations, where relevant

Who Should Book This

Anyone actively planning a pregnancy, or thinking about it in the next several months — this is especially useful if you have an existing medical condition, take regular medication, or have had a previous pregnancy complication.

What to Expect During Your Video Consultation

A confirmed appointment time, with a secure video link sent ahead of your consult.

A private, unhurried conversation with Dr Lim about your health and pregnancy plans.

Practical, personalised next steps you can act on before conceiving.

Guidance on any tests or vaccinations to arrange, and whether these need an in-person visit.

Is This Right for You?

Preconception counselling is discussion-based and works well over video. That said, some recommended next steps — such as blood tests, vaccinations, or a physical examination if you have a specific health concern — will need an in-person visit to complete. Dr Lim will let you know exactly what those are and help you plan them alongside your telemedicine consultation.

When to skip telemedicine and seek immediate care Telemedicine is not suitable for emergencies. Call 995 or go to your nearest A&E if you have symptoms unrelated to routine planning that need urgent attention, such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or chest pain or breathing difficulty. For non-urgent health concerns, book a consultation and we’ll advise the right next step.
