Vaccinations for Pregnant Women

Vaccinations

Vaccination works by training your immune system to recognise and fight specific infections before you are ever exposed to them — one of the most effective tools in preventive healthcare. For women, several vaccines are particularly relevant at different life stages, from adolescence through pregnancy and beyond.

Recommended Vaccinations for Women

Singapore’s National Adult Immunisation Schedule (NAIS) recommends several vaccines for adult women, alongside pregnancy-specific recommendations:

Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

Protects against the virus responsible for most cervical cancers, recommended from age 9 and catch-up eligible to 26.

Influenza (flu)

Recommended annually, and specifically encouraged during pregnancy given the higher risk of complications.

Tdap/DTaP (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis)

A booster recommended once every 10 years generally, and specifically during each pregnancy to protect your newborn.

Other NAIS-recommended vaccines

Including MMR, hepatitis B, varicella, and pneumococcal and shingles vaccines for eligible age groups — worth discussing with your doctor based on your vaccination history.

Not every vaccine is safe during pregnancy — live vaccines like MMR and varicella (chickenpox) should be avoided while pregnant — which is exactly why vaccination planning benefits from a doctor who understands both your general health and your reproductive stage.
