Sexual Health

Sexual health is a normal, important part of overall wellbeing — yet it is often the topic patients feel most hesitant to raise. At Eden Women’s Health, we create a confidential, non-judgemental space to discuss concerns, get tested, and get clear answers.

Understanding Sexual Health & STIs

A sexually transmitted infection (STI) is an infection passed through sexual contact — and many cause no symptoms at all, which is exactly why regular screening matters more than waiting for warning signs.

Commonly tested infections include chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, trichomoniasis, genital herpes, and HIV, with hepatitis B and C tested where relevant.

Left undiagnosed, some STIs can lead to complications specific to women, such as pelvic inflammatory disease, which can affect future fertility — another reason an O&G-trained perspective on sexual health matters, not just a general screening.

How Eden Women's Health Can Help

Confidential, judgement-free consultations

A private setting to discuss any concerns, symptoms, or questions, without discomfort.

Comprehensive STI testing

Tailored to your symptoms, history, and risk factors, via swab, urine, or blood tests as appropriate.

Contraceptive and sexual wellbeing guidance

Sexual health is not only about infection — see our Contraceptive Counselling page for family planning support.

Cervical health integration

Sexual health screening pairs naturally with Pap smear and HPV testing, since HPV itself is an STI and the leading cause of cervical cancer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need STI testing?

If you have a new partner, multiple partners, symptoms, or simply want peace of mind, testing is appropriate. Many STIs cause no symptoms, so “feeling fine” is not a reliable reason to skip it.

Most tests involve a simple urine sample, blood test, or swab — generally quick and no more uncomfortable than a routine gynaecological exam.

Where possible, avoid sexual activity for 24 to 48 hours beforehand, and note down any symptoms you’ve noticed to discuss at your visit.

Completely. Sexual health consultations are handled with the same confidentiality as any other medical visit.

Most STIs are very treatable, especially when caught early. Dr Sheri Lim will explain your results clearly and guide you through treatment, and if relevant, discuss partner notification and testing.
