Common Questions

For pregnant women

During pregnancy, your body is naturally weakened and you may be more prone to infections.Taking vaccinations help to guard against these infections before they manifest fully. Not all vaccinations are safe to take when you are pregnant as they could have an effect on your baby’s development. However, suitable vaccinations include:

  1. Tdap/ DTaP vaccine

These 2 vaccines protect against Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Whooping Cough). Normally, after your initial 3 doses and 2 booster shots, you would be immunised again once every 10 years. However, it is recommended for you to receive a dose of the Tdap vaccine between 27 and 36 weeks. The antibodies your immune system creates passes on to your newborn, protecting them from infection during the infancy period.

  1. Influenza vaccine

This vaccine helps to protect against the common flu and thus reduces the risk of serious complications like pneumonia. Women normally take the vaccine once every year or twice a year. It is safe and recommended to take the vaccine any time during your pregnancy.

For non-pregnant women

  1. HPV vaccine

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus spread through sexual activity, especially common for those with multiple partners. It is the leading cause of many gynaecological cancers.

Gardasil 9 and Cervirax are the 2 common HPV vaccinations taken to guard against HPV. It is recommended for females between 9 and 26.

This vaccine is not given during pregnancy.
