Mammogram

Mammogram
A mammogram is an X-ray image of your breasts to detect breast cancer or other abnormalities.
There are 2 types of mammograms:
Standard mammogram:
Your breasts are positioned and compressed between 2 imaging plates. An X-ray image is taken from the top-down and another one is taken of the side profile.
3D mammogram:
Multiple thin layers of x-ray images are taken of your breasts. They are combined to form a 3D image of your breasts.
This type of mammogram may be better for those with dense breast tissue, improving detection of abnormalities for these women.
There is currently no significant evidence that 3D mammograms can reduce the risk of mortality from breast cancer. Thus, most guidelines do not specify that women should choose 3D mammograms over standard mammograms alone.
